8/14/2023 0 Comments Dustforce dx differences![]() ![]() let me know if you need clarification/elaboration. Not to rant too much about it, but thats the gist of it. we often end up playing man in cases where it loses no time and he happens to save a bit of time over girl (the early section of forest, firefly girl -> man valley -> girl dahlia, is identical speed for character swaps but man ended up saving a few frames over girl for a variety of reasons. say we have a case where we switch from worth, to dustgirl/dustman, and then back to worth - man loses a total of 4 frames over girl in this case, which is a rather large difference that often will not be made up in the differences between the characters within the level. girl will save 2 frames over man in any case where we switch to dustworth, and 2 frames over man in any case where we switch to dustkid. since worth is the most prevalent character in the TAS, we switch to him a lot. characters on the menu are arranged man/girl/kid/worth, so switching from worth to girl costs 2 frames, while switching from man to worth costs 4 frames. ![]() selecting either the same character or an adjacent character costs 0 frames in TAS, but any extra character switching beyond 1 costs 2 frames for each input. The last and biggest difference comes down to character selection. but occasionally you don't want that either! it gets pretty technical, but i can provide more details if you're interested. less friction on ceiling running sounds great for man as well. again, which is better depends - sometimes girl's faster falling acceleration is better (levels like tunnels or vats where you start the level falling), and sometimes it's worse (loses significant time at the start of core temple and scaffolding). Otherwise, the physics differences are a bit un-intuitive - girl's falling acceleration is slightly faster than man's (only her initial falling speed - their downdashing speed and terminal velocity are identical), but otherwise girl has the short end of the stick - her grounded friction is a fair bit worse than man's, and due to an oversight dustman has an extra 5 frames of no friction ceiling running. it's situational which is better than the other - sometimes you want girl's wider sideheavy (ending of fields, for example, where her heavy lets her do the ending in 1 attack much faster than man could), sometimes you want man's wider upheavy (ending of titan, where he has to wait a shorter time at the end cycle compared to girl to be able to heavy 4 blobs in one attack). compared to man, girl's sideheavy is wider and her upheavy reaches a bit higher above her (but is not as wide as man's), and their downheavies are identical. girl's uplight and downlight are wider but shorter than man's, while man's sidelight is wider and slightly longer. It depends - both man and girl have some attack hitbox differences and some really minor physics differences. Records: First Double S+, First Yotta Difficult SS otherwise, the physics differences are a bit un-intuitive - girl's falling acceleration is slightly faster than man's (only her initial falling speed - their downdashing speed and terminal velocity are identical), but otherwise girl has the short end of the stick - her grounded friction is a fair bit worse than man's, and due to an oversight.Message the mods if the world records need an update.
